Melissa VanDiermen

Melissa VanDiermen, Read Well Teacher, Primary

An alumnus of Trinity Western University (2010), I have a BA in English and am also a BC Certified teacher, ESL teacher, and special education assistant. Some positions have included pioneering a program at Richmond’s TWU Language Centre, teaching and working as an education assistant for more than 10 years in both public and private schools, and working as a private instructor at Granville Island’s Vancouver Learning Centre. I am equally passionate about mental health and have worked for the Canadian Mental Health Association presenting workshops in the Delta School District for grade 6 and 7s. Clearly my passion is in education and I doubt I will ever leave this field!

I am glad to have lived in Ladner for most of my life and enjoy the community here. In fact, I attended Delta Christian School when I was a child—DCS was a tiny shoebox back then! Having had Christian education my whole life, I see first-hand the value of excellence in academics as well as the importance of demonstrating the character of God, especially through the fruits of the spirit. I am excited to join the teaching team this year with a focus on the Read Well program for primary grades.

When I am not teaching, you can find me volunteering as a mental health advocate. You can also find me tickling my funny bone watching improv at Vancouver Theatre Sports, perfecting my Salsa dancing moves, or biking and hiking in our beautiful backyard of BC—what glorious nature!
